FCS Classes
7th Grade Family and Consumer Sciences
Students will develop life skills in family and peer relationships, clothing and textile care, healthy food choices, money management, and basic food preparation.
Introduction to Family & Consumer Sciences
Students will develop life management skills in interpersonal, peer, and family relationships and responsibilities, consumer issues, nutrition and food preparation, housing decisions, clothing and textile care/design, and career exploration.
Food Science and Technology
Topics addressed in this class will include attitudes toward food, nutrition facts, special health concerns and diets, management of food resources, preparation skills through science and technology, meal management, and careers in nutrition and food service.
Human Development
In this class, students will gain a better understanding of themselves in relationships with others, create strong families within our society, parenting skills, career exploration in related occupations, and the emotional, intellectual, moral, physical, and social development of a child.
Textiles and Clothing Construction
Focuses in this class are based on the interests of the individual student. Students identify a goal related to the field of textiles and practice the skills necessary to accomplish that goal at a steady pace. It may include skills such as clothing construction, knitting, crocheting, fashion design, machine-quilting, applique, embroidery, crewel, latch hook, or crafting.
Housing and Interior Design
This class focuses on the development of efficient and cost-effective room and floor plans that meet the needs of residential and commercial clients.
Independent Living
Students will learn basic information and practical skills related to interpersonal and family relationships, career preparation, financial management, life management, healthy living, food and nutrition, clothing, and housing.
